A Day in the Life: What It's Like Living in Venice, FL

by April Mackey Iliff

Ever wondered what it's really like to live in the "Shark Tooth Capital of the World"? Forget the vacation brochures and picture postcards for a moment. Come along with me for a typical day in Venice, Florida, where the pace is a little slower, the sunshine is abundant, and the opportunities for enjoying life are endless.

Sunrise Serenade (Around 7:00 AM):

My day often begins with the soft glow of sunrise. If I'm feeling ambitious (and the tide is right!), I might sneak out for an early morning stroll along Venice Beach. The air is fresh and cool, the sand is still mostly untouched, and the only sounds are the gentle lapping of waves and the calls of early-rising seabirds. It's a peaceful way to start the day, and who knows, I might even stumble upon a prized shark tooth!

Coffee and Community (Around 8:30 AM):

Back home, it's time for coffee. I love supporting our local cafes – maybe a stop at Black Gold Coffee Roasters for a ddelicious brew and pastry , or The Original Word of Mouth for a hearty breakfast and some friendly chatter with familiar faces. Venice has a strong sense of community, and these local spots are the heart of it. Catching up on the local news and exchanging greetings with neighbors is a pleasant way to ease into the day.

Mid-Morning Adventures (Around 10:00 AM):

Depending on the day, my mid-morning could involve a few different things. If it's a market day, a wander through the Venice Farmers Market is a must. The vibrant colors of fresh produce, the aroma of local honey, and the friendly banter with vendors make it a delightful experience. Other days might see me cycling along the scenic Venetian Waterway Trail, enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful views of the canals and wildlife.

Lunch with a View (Around 12:30 PM):

Lunch in Venice often involves fresh seafood. Sharky's on the Pier is a classic choice for a grouper sandwich with an unbeatable ocean view. Or perhaps a more casual bite at Pop's Sunset Grill, watching the boats cruise along the Intracoastal and watch to see if a dolphin will swim by.  The options are plentiful, and the fresh, local flavors are a real treat.

Afternoon Delights (Around 2:00 PM):

The afternoon is a great time to explore Venice's unique offerings. A stroll down Venice Avenue with its charming boutiques and Italian architecture is always enjoyable. Maybe a visit to the Venice Theatre to check out upcoming shows, or a relaxing browse through one of the local art galleries. Of course, another trip to the beach for some sunbathing or shelling is always a tempting option!

Golden Hour and Relaxation (Around 5:00 PM):

As the day begins to wind down, there's nothing quite like experiencing the "golden hour" in Venice. Finding a spot along the beach to watch the sunset over the Gulf is a ritual for many. The sky explodes in a kaleidoscope of colors, creating a truly magical moment.

Evening Choices (Around 7:00 PM):

Dinner options in Venice are diverse. Perhaps a taste of Italy at Cassariano Italian Eatery, some flavorful Mexican at Mi Pueblo, or a delicious Thai curry at Paya Thai Curry. Afterwards, the evening might involve a leisurely walk downtown, catching some live music at a local spot, or simply relaxing on my porch, enjoying the balmy Florida air.

Sweet Dreams (Around 10:00 PM):

Evenings in Venice tend to be relatively peaceful. The pace slows down, and the sounds of the day fade away. Drifting off to sleep with the gentle sounds of the Florida night is a fitting end to another beautiful day in paradise.

The Rhythm of Venice:

This is just a snapshot, of course. Some days are busier, some are more laid-back. But the underlying rhythm of life in Venice is one of embracing the natural beauty, enjoying a strong sense of community, and savoring the simple pleasures. It's a place where you can seamlessly blend relaxation with activity, and where the sunshine is always an invitation to enjoy the outdoors.

If you're considering a move, or just curious about what life is really like here, I hope this glimpse into a day in the life of a Venice resident has given you a taste of the charm and appeal of this special corner of Florida.
